Agreed fines should be increased because they obviously aren't much of a deterrent before this accident which BP cutting corners as they did.
5. This brings up my point in that we need a Manhattan project for new energy research. If we can put a man on the moon the US can come up with alternates. Turn up the heat!

Furey- I am not sure what Connan has to do with BP? Did he do a spot for them? I don't know.Hoboken Resistancehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16761742021546771950noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1414875741269261914.post-54936059176364072652010-06-09T14:44:21.551-04:002010-06-09T14:44:21.551-04:00How did Conan O'Brien get involved with BP?How did Conan O'Brien get involved with BP?Fureyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14170095879544211396noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1414875741269261914.post-45842992009045427402010-06-09T14:23:25.234-04:002010-06-09T14:23:25.234-04:00Did these gentleman mention who will pay for the c...Did these gentleman mention who will pay for the cleanup of the Gulf if their efforts succeed and BP goes bankrupt? Just wondering.

Look, I might make jokes about putting oil covered birds in my gas tank, but the reality is, I'm incredibly unhappy with the situation in the Gulf. That being said, I'd like to point out a few things about this problem:

1. For all you sheeple changing your facebook status to admonish the gov't for not reacting like they did to Haiti: Newsflash, this is not Haiti. This is not a natural disaster. This is a disaster that a company caused and therefore that company will pick up the tab for the cleanup. We don't need benefits and concerts for the people along the coast, we need BP to start paying these people for their loss of revenues/profits. Stop reposting the facebook status about how unfair it all is to the people of Louisiana that Hollywood and the US isn't sending relief money. (PS, that US relief money is OUR tax dollars, why should OUR tax dollars go towards a mess that BP created? Answer: It shouldn't). You can't sue an earthquake, you can sue a corporation.

2. If BP does go belly up, then OUR tax dollars will pay for the cleanup and for the livelihood of others. So please, continue to gas up at BP, keep these jerks in business long enough to pay for the cleanup.

3. If we allowed drilling closer to the shore, in less than one thousand feet of water, we could have divers down there fixing this mess. At least half the problem with deep sea drilling is rooted in the inability to fix things when they go wrong at 5000 feet deep. As you are seeing now, remotely fixing things doesn't work out so well in an emergency.

4. If we had higher fines for accidents like this, they'd clean up faster. Increase the penalties stat.

5. If you want to stop drilling for oil, find a substitute lubricant and power source. That means, figure out a way to run everything from electric generation to fuel for your cars not using oil. We all use oil every day. We're dependent *unless you're home burning pine knots for light and cooking over a wooden stove*. It's not just drivers, people, it's all of us. Take some responsibility.

That's it for now. I'm sure I'll have more pontificating later.Katie_Scarletthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01008109368711042672noreply@blogger.com
