Romanace Commandos at Church Square Park August 5th 7PM.

Here is a press release from Tom Vincent, the ringleader of a musical band known as the Romance Commandos. They will be having a free concert at Church Square Park this Wednesday August 5 at Church Square Park near the gazebo.

Here is Tom's promo of the event:

BREAKING NEWS!!!

HOBOKEN, July 23, 2009 - In a stunning development, members of the Romance Commandos were not rounded up by FBI agents today as part of a state-wide corruption and money-laundering sweep.

Local observers were surprised because the Romance Commandos are well- know by sales clerks here as habitual money-launderers. "We're always getting faded dollar bills and suspiciously shiny quarters from these guys," said an area deli owner, "how does the FBI miss evidence like that?" Some of the currency has been reported to still have soap on it, apparently from those occasions when band members plucked it out before the rinse cycle.

Sources report that no plans have been made to step down from their upcoming performance at Church Square Park on Wednesday August 5th and there doesn't seem to be any public pressure to do so.

Band leader, Tom Vincent, was unavailable for comment because he was still sleeping at press time.

New Website in Town - The Boken Online

There is a new website in town and it is called the The Boken Online. Unlike one other website owner in town I don't get all paranoid when someone else launches a website about Hoboken. I say the more the merrier. In this case I really mean it since after meeting the owners of the site by chance last night, they don't intend to cover the politics in town but rather food, restaurant, bars and special events.

You might have already seen this name first on Twitter:

NJ State Police Ticketing Initiative - A Hoax

Update: The article below is a hoax. See Snopes with this link: http://www.snopes.com/politics/traffic/speeding.asp. See, even I can be fooled (like supporters of Peter Cammarano were). It still it doesn't hurt to slow down this summer if you are a "Larry Lead Foot" or a "Sally Speeder".

Most of us are probably aware that New Jersey drivers get a pretty bad rap. Some of it is justified especially in the Summer where many people speed to get to their destinations on the Jersey Shore. If you are admittedly a lead foot it might be time to take heed and drive a little slower on the interstates. State Police are beefing up their patrols and focus on speeding. Read below:

NJ State Police Ticketing Initiative
Here's the latest NJ State Police Initiative (Radio Station 101.5 FM
confirmed this info).

Starting today, New Jersey will launch a 30-day speeding ticket
frenzy. The state estimates that 9 million dollars will be generated
in speeding tickets. One million dollars will go to pay state troopers
over-time.

There will be 50 state troopers on duty at all times patrolling the 9
main intersections and highways as follows:

I-295 North and South,
I-95 Jersey Turnpike North and South
I-80 East and West
I-287 North and South
I-78 East and West
I-195 East and West
I-280 East and West
Route 130 - North and South
Garden State Parkway - North and South

5 MPH above the limit can justify a ticket and every state trooper is
supposed to pull a car over and write a ticket every 10 to 20 minutes.

They have issued 30 brand new unmarked Crown Victoria cruisers and
are bringing in all of their part-timers on full time. If you work in
NJ, NY, DE or CT, you will probably be on one of these highways. So,
please be on guard and drive safely!

Starting August 15, the price of a violation to show your driver's
license, registration or insurance card at the time you are stopped,
increased from $44.00 to $173.00. (Keep these documents in your car).
And the fine for not having all three documents is $519.00!

The fine for hand-held cell phone use while driving will be going up
to $180.00. ◦

Channel 4 News - From Friday on Hoboken's transfer of power

Here is a video from a Hoboken Journal reader of NBC news channel 4's coverage shown on Friday night of the transfer of power from outgoing Mayor Peter Cammarano to temporary acting Mayor Dawn Zimmer. It looks like this video was created using the same technique as the Chinese that sell the $5 DVDs of movies right when they are released. That would explain the echo in the audio and the fact that the picture is not square due to being shot from the side ever so slightly. Still, all in all pretty good quality for a copy such as this.

In the video, Dawn remarks about how wonderful this city is:

Poll Results- Whether Peter Cammarano Should Resign

Here are the results from my reader poll on whether or not Peter Cammarano should resign or not. On Friday he handed in his letter of resignation so the point has been been settled.

87% percent said he should resign and 13% did not. I have a feeling the percentage in polls such as these that reflected the overwhelming consensus of Hobokenites on him resigning. Ultimately such a concesnsus put presure on Governor Corzine to force Cammarano's hand including the possibility of a State takeover. "Powder to the People". :)

Dawn Zimmer Swearing in Speech

Dawn Zimmer Swearing in Speech

Here is the swearing in speech transscript from yesterday where Dawn Zimmer was sworn in as acting Mayor after Peter Cammarano delivered his resignation letter via Steve Kleinman effective at 12 noon yesterday.

Here is the transcript of the speech:

Early this morning, Mayor Cammarano called to let me know he decided to resign. I commend him for making this decision. I am sure it was a difficult decision for him and his family, but I believe it is in the best interest of the people of Hoboken. Today, we begin the hard work of restoring confidence in City Government and tackling the serious problems that face Hoboken.

First, I want to say that I recognize this has been a traumatic experience for many Hoboken residents and City employees. I want everyone to know I am committed to open, honest and accountable government. I will draw on the skills, talents and energy of all of our residents to set a new direction for our City.

Now, we must move forward with innovative approaches to improve our quality of life. The last couple of days serve to remind us that flooding is still a major concern for our City. I will get to work immediately to address the problems facing our community.

I am confident that by working together, we can put Hoboken back on the right track and restore the reputation of our town. The eyes of the nation have been drawn to our story. I want the world outside Hoboken to know that we have a wonderful City filled with interesting and committed residents, great restaurants and cafes, and a wonderful small-town feel minutes away from New York City. We are a short PATH ride from the West Village and Midtown, with spectacular views of Manhattan. I invite everyone to visit our wonderful community.

Now it is time to get to work and do the people's business. Together with my Council colleagues and staff, that is exactly what I am going to do.

Thank you.
Acting Mayor Dawn Zimmer

City of Hoboken's Website has been Updated (Cammarano Free Zone)

The City of Hoboken's website has already been updated to reflect the fact that Dawn Zimmer is now acting Mayor. In her swearing in speech she said she was going to keep her speech short and get right to work. It looks like a top priority was to get any traces of Peter Cammarano off the City website ASAP. Bravo! It is a new dawn for Hoboken (pun intended).
