Hoboken German Heritage Week - Helmers Restaurant

As part of Hoboken German Heritage Week I went to Helmers which is Hoboken's only full-size German restaurant in town to the best of my knowledge. This from their website at http://helmersrestaurant.com/index.html.

Authentic German food from Kroftten & Bremmen, Germany (Little Hoboken). If you have come for the Wurst – Be prepared for the best! At Helmers', there's plenty and it's terrific. Order a generous main course of either Bratwurst, Weisswurst, Knockwurst, Krainer or Debreciner served with a side of either German style potatoe salad or sauerkraut & German Potatoes.Try the "Oktoberfest Platter" - (Roasted Pork chops served with mashed potatoes, saurkraut and sauteed onions)There are many favourite meals such as – Veal Jägerschnitzel, Beef Rindsroulade, Leberknödelsuppe ,Saeurbraten and Käsepätzle homemade egg noodles with side. The Dinner and Lunch menu is packed with Schnitzels, Sausages, Potatoes and Meat in generous portions.

My friend Dave with the 2 liter boot of Späten Munich:

A shot of the original bar, which according to the bartender that served me was left intact after the fire a few years ago. Most of the restaurant was spared and only smoke and water damage occurred:

This is the Octoberfest platter. I enjoyed the well portioned meal and found the service to be efficient, the bartender freindly and restaurant a nice place to hang out. They also had a very good selection of draft and bottled beers. For potato pancake lovers these are only served Monday through Thursday. I will have to come back and try those at some point.
