Retro Video - Hoboken BOE Meeting from 1994

Here is another old Hoboken Video from Eric Kurta, this time from 1994 and pertaining to a BOE meeting that had its own share of controversy:

In 1994, the new reform majority on the BOE – Choice for Change – moved to suspend Edwin Duroy, school superintendent. Then-Mayor Anthony Russo took issue with the board majority, predicting (correctly) that CFC would lose their seats. I find his concern for the Hoboken taxpayer amusing, given that we since learned that he was receiving kickbacks from the city auditor, who had been overcharging the city by a significant amount. That along with all the other schemes alleged to have taken place during his eight years.

I also try to imagine the public response nowadays were the current Mayor of Hoboken to show up at a BOE meeting and threaten the Board members’ seats. Not too positive, I’d imagine.
