Original Commentary 10/13/2010 AM: First there was Lincoln vs. Douglas, Senator Llyod "You're no Jack Kennedy" Benston vs. Dan Quayle, and now Lenz (the heavyweight) vs. Occhipinti (the lightweight) (and no this is not a reference about Mike Lenz's weight since he has lost over 180 pounds). History will show that the candidate necessarily more well versed in the issues or telling the truth comes out ahead of a debate in terms of perception. All you have to do is go back to Gore vs. Bush or Cammarano vs. Zimmer. In the case of Gore he came across as wonkish and mean spirited though clearly he was the more well versed on policy, and in the case of Cammarano he was the more polished of the two candidates and was able to pull off statements like "The Hospital is thriving" with such panache that would have made Bernie Madoff proud. The problem was, he was lying through his teeth. Zimmer was not as articulate but was right on the issues and now Peter is in jail and his disingenuous statements should have been a warning to his more informed supporters of the corruption to come.
Tonight, POG and Hoboken QLC are hosting the 4th Ward forum/debate at the Jubilee Center from 7:30PM to 9:30PM. If you were planning on going in person you should go and see this for yourself. My advice is to go early as the space is small and no doubt Tim Occhipinti will try and pull a Glatt/Cammarano and bus (pay) to get his supporters in early to pack the house. Original POG member and former President Eric Kurta is trying to see if he can pull of getting Internet access and if so the event can be streamed live on the POG website or here with the live blog. So if you were not planning on attending in person come back to this site at 7:30PM for the festivities. In any event the video will be posted on the POG website once it has been processed.
