2008 Hoboken Municipal Raspberry Awards

In reviewing the status of our Government officials performances during the 2008, there were some noteworthy ones based on the dire situation our government is in. Hence, I have come up with the 2008 Hoboken Municipal Raspberry Awards......

The Colin Powell Good Soldier who Falls on his Sword Award goes to Dick England:

General Colin Powell had a distinguished Army career working his way up to being top brass. As a Bush Cabinet Member he was pressure to put a big spin on about Iraq and exaggerate threats of WMDs that were never in fact found. A good man with a great sense of ethics had his reputation tarnished to feed the megalomania of Bush the war mongering president.

Likewise, Dick England, an honorable man who had given the City many years of service as a Purchasing Director was tapped by Roberts as the BA after much turmoil in that position earlier in his Administration. Dick was the perfect soldier that did his master’s bidding by carrying over unpaid Medical Insurance bills year after year. It finally caught up with the Mayor and to England’s credit when pressed he finally told the truth. Robert’s response, he threw Dick under the bus.

The Teflon Award goes to Al Arezzo:

This goes to the individual who seemingly always seems to be watched and examined and suspect of many facets of corruption but never gets indicted. He has at times been investigated by the Feds and the State to no avail.
Innocent until proven guilty, gotta love this country. He is no other than Maxwell House public park fence builder and ill-tempered Construction code head honcho Al Arezzo.

The Golden Parchute Award goes to Carmen Labruno:

Hands down this has to be the most expensive cash out in NJ history of a public official.

The Al Sharpton, I’ll play the class card too Award goes to Ruben Ramos:

This award goes to Ruben Ramos for his searing commentary on Beth Mason’s proposal to take away his pay from his third public job. His third public job! How can he possibly do all three jobs and not have any one of those jobs suffer in terms of performance? He really played to the crowd on that night. Many of the 4th Ward residents who don't pay taxes and get plenty of public assistance were there to cheer him on.

The Horse’s Ass Award goes to Dave Roberts:

This could go to a lot of members of Hoboken’s Government but the problems with Hoboken’s Government really start at the top. Thus, the award goes to Dave Roberts who is the shinning example of why you should never put a bon vivant with a penchant for ceremony and a silver spoon in his mouth in charge of a municipality such as Hoboken. But he won the election by convincing enough people his was the best plan. How do some of those who voted for him feel now?
