On Saturday January 28th at 8:30PM EST there is a scheduled event called "Earth Hour" where various organizations and individuals are encouraged to turn off their power for one hour . The website is http://earthhour.org/.
One of my more conservative friends had this to say about this event.....
Slacktivism goes global with a voluntary hour without power:

Perhaps if the lights were on, masses of people could devote an hour to learning how to permanently reduce their energy consumption. Actually, let give some credit where credit is due: since most guys engaging in acts of tokenism are doing it to impress women, an event that requires that one spend an hour in the dark, with little to do, can only be described as a "clever hack."
My Comment: Does my friend have a point on this event not doing much good or is there benefit to raising awareness with an event such as this?
