My Final Thoughts Before Election Day

Here are my final thoughts before election day tomorrow with some observations and tepid predictions. This is not done from a scientific data perspective just what I feel based on observations....

There will most likely be a runoff

This will be between any combination of 2 out of 3 of Cammarano, Mason, or Zimmer.
The higher the voter turnout, the better Dawn Zimmer's chances are to make the runoff.
Hoboken Mayoral elections typically bring out 10,000 voters (based on the last 8 years). The school board turnout in 2009 was 39% greater than the average so if that happens in the Mayoral election that would be 14,000 voters. I think optimistically 13,000 is more possible or 12,000 for the over/under. The closer it is to 10,000 for turnout this favors the Cammarno and Mason tickets. If only 10,000 people vote I can't see how Dawn Zimmer makes the runoff.

All three major slate candidates have a chance to make the runoff

I am not privy to polls but based on candidates behavior in the campaigns the outcome is uncertain. This is strictly an anecdotal assessment.

There will be some "bullet voting"

People in this election will vote for Mayor and split their votes for the other slates in some cases. Normally this has not happened.

Whoever wins this race, the citizens of Hoboken should give the winning team their support.

What I mean by that is we should accept what ever the outcome is, bridge our differences and attempt to work with the new administration and the council. Being critical in a constructive way is positive but there should be an atttempt by the citizens to reconcile and move forward. I will pledge my personal support to whoever wins and encourage others to do the same. I will not do it with a blind eye however.

Hoboken will continue to be a great place to live regardless of who is Mayor

After all, some say Roberts was terrible but I still love our town. Other than the massive tax burden, poor student test scores and crumbling infrastructure what is really wrong with this town? (ha ha) It really is a great place in spite of its past leadership. ◦
