Here is an email I got from reader and poster Lincoln_logger asking citizens of Hoboken to reach out to their elected representatives and urge them not to pass the state legislation proposed by Paul Sarlo (D) to limit Hoboken's say on what goes on in the NJ Transit development project.
I humbly submit the following for publication:
Citizens of Hoboken,Whether you support Dawn Zimmer, Beth Mason, or Artie Lange for Hoboken Mayor, we have a serious problem.Senator Paul Sarlo intends to push legislation through that will allow NJ Transit to build over the tracks at the southern edge of our town without the input of the two cities that any major construction or development project will impact. http://www.nj.com/hudson/index.ssf/2009/10/sarlo_plans_on_pushing_hands_o.html
This sort of one-sided legislation without the concern of the citizens is abhorrent and abusive, and needs to be stopped. If the legislation passes, we will likely see 70-story condo towers and rampant over-development that will severely threaten our town's infrastructure, resources, attractiveness, and small community feel.
While we should hope that Acting Mayor Dawn Zimmer and whoever is elected in November will fight this as best they can, we cannot stand on the sidelines either. We need to act to prevent this legislation in any way we can for the good of our community. What can you do?
Contact Paul Sarlo directly, let him know you do not support your town having no say in what NJ Transit does: http://www.senatorpaulsarlo.com/senatorpaulsarlo/contact.htm
Contact Governor Corzine, and let him know the same: http://www.state.nj.us/governor/about/contact/
Contact your District Senator, Brian Stack, and let him know your concerns. http://www.njleg.state.nj.us/members/BIO.asp?Leg=306
The more voices and contacts that are made, the more they will know how opposed we are to this taking place. Please, take a few minutes to act. You then can be assured that you have done something to help.
Thanks,
Lincoln_logger
