Ricky Mason and Real Results - Follow the money

Ricky Mason and Real Results - A Republican Slate and a "Real Democratic Committeeman" Donor

A look at the ELEC reports for the recent "slash and burn" BOE slate/team of Real Results which included Liz Markevitch, Perry Lin, John Forsman and Kathleen Tucker and supported by Treasurer Nathan Brinkman as well as the ever unpredictable and irrational board member Maureen Sullivan, shows that they did get a hefty donation from the Masons after all. It turns out Ricky Mason right before the 24 hr. filing deadline came through with an in kind donation of $5,700 for a mailer. The ELEC reports for Real Results show that the total money raised by Real Results was $20,192.90. Thus Ricky Mason, husband of Beth Mason contributed 28% of the funds used to run the Real Results Campaign. Fortunately for Hoboken residents who care about the public schools, this slate came in a distant third like Ricky's wife Beth Mason in the May Mayoral election in 2009.

I wonder why the donation was so late? Was it perhaps to make sure that the Mason's footprint on the board of Education Election was kept from the majority of voters who don't have time to scour the Board of Elections web site right before the election? Just curious.

Here is the donation on the R-1 Report for the third reporting period out of 3 and the 24 hr report below it for the same donation of $5,700:

What I am also curious about is why a Senior partner in a prestigious law firm would bother to run on the Democratic Committee race when he had just previously endorsed a slate that is the epitome of tea-bagging slash and burn firebrand Republicanism? This election for Real Results was about making the School Board Election a Republican Board and the tone set by Nathan Brinkman was very partisan. So why would Ricky Mason a registered Democrat make such a large donation to slate that was clearly so partisan? Intelligent people can figure out the answer so no need to repeat it here. Things that make you go hmm.

Editorial Clarification: I think both BOE and Municipal elections should be non-partisan. The current administration has the support of both Democrats and Republicans alike when it comes to Municipal matters. The Democratic and Republican Committee are appropriately partisan and should be about party matters. For the committee seats one should have a right to question when a "Real Democrat" supports such a blatantly partisan BOE slate that is against just about everything a Democrat could stand for. I am not saying that the person can't make that choice, but that they just don't hide behind the cloak of one party while you support the other. ◦
