HOBOKEN CORNER CARS PROGRAM EXCEEDS 800 MEMBERS
Hoboken's Corner Cars program, the first city-wide on-street car-sharing program in the nation, now exceeds 800 members. The program was introduced four months ago as a way to provide residents with a less expensive and more convenient option to owning a car in Hoboken.
"In a very short period of time, we're seeing an average of more than 19 residents share each of the 42 Corner Car parking spaces," said Transportation and Parking Director Ian Sacs. "This is an extremely efficient use of our limited on-street parking capacity, and I'm thrilled the program has been so successful so soon."
For residents who want a Corner Cars membership card right away without waiting for it to arrive in the mail, rapid activation kits are now available at the Hoboken Parking Utility. Simply come in and request a rapid activation kit and sign up online for instant access to a Corner Car. The application fee and first year membership fees are waived when using the special promotional code, although no driving credits are provided using this option. Residents who surrender a permit (http://hobokennj.org/surrenderyourpermit) are still eligible for $100 in driving credits if they use the rapid activation kit, and the first 40 to surrender a permit will receive $140 in driving credits.
Connect by Hertz promotions
Connect by Hertz, the city's partner in the Corner Cars program, has announced that they are extending their $5/hour promotion to Mondays and Tuesdays through November 16th, 2010. Also until that date, residents who sign up for Corner Cars with the promotional code "Hoboken" will receive $100 in driving credits (usually a $75 credit) and two years free membership. A $25 application fee is required. Instructions for registering are available at: http://hobokennj.org/cornercars.
Over the next few weeks, representatives from Connect will be distributing information and rapid activation packets throughout the City including near the PATH station and at various sports games.
