Mayor Dawn Zimmer Fundraiser Recap - Cory Booker wows the crowd

Wow, what an event! The fundraiser for Dawn Zimmer attracted over 150 people last night at the swank Teak restaurant in downtown Hoboken. The event included mostly Zimmer's core supporters in Hoboken as well as dignitaries such as former State Senator Bernie Kenny, Mayor Dawn Zimmer and the star guest speaker Cory Booker, Mayor of Newark and national political celebrity. As Mayor, Cory Booker has been working hard to clean up Newark and has made appearances on Bill Maher's HBO show as well as Oprah. Let's face it, the guy is a political rock star as he alluded to it in his speech about Dawn alluding to his fundraising prowess.

Cory Booker who arrived at his scheduled time of 9:15 pm on the dot (despite blatantly false speculation from a disgruntled, out of touch and out of the loop political smear blog ghost co-written by a man rumored to be on the Mason dole with a penchant for hate for all things Zimmer) was the highlight of the evening. In his speech he said "Look, this is a tremendous outpouring of support for somebody who is the center of the fire in the middle of the crucible and standing up for folks." In his speech in supporting the Mayor he had some words of wisdom with such expressions as "kites fly highest against the wind", and the quote "Churchill said when you are going through hell, you keep going".

He described Dawn Zimmer as "a pragmatist, with vision of getting things done for the greatest good". Cory also called for an end of divisive politics. And concluded by asking everyone if they would stand by their Mayor which got a roar from the crowd. Cory Booker's speech was a pretty strong show of support for Mayor Zimmer. I was able to get his speech on video which is below.

A person close to the Zimmer Administration wanted to thank the blogs but in particular Hoboken 411 for their extensive albeit negative marketing of the event. He felt that the H411 website, which is consistently very critical of the Administration, was a factor in obtaining the high turnout. The fundraiser was a success and raised a good amount of money after expenses from concerned and citizens of Hoboken who are a part of Dawn Zimmer's growing grass roots organization.
