From Hoboken City Hall....
OCTOBER 12 UPDATE ON SINATRA DRIVE
ROAD COLLAPSE
Mayor Dawn Zimmer joined engineers from Applied Housing, Hudson County, and the City of Hoboken in a meeting earlier today to emphasize the importance of repairing Sinatra Drive and the need to move expeditiously to address this emergency situation.
The size of the collapse has grown due to erosion and may continue to grow. Divers performed an underwater investigation of the area. Engineers are expected to return with a proposed plan and cost estimates.
Residents are reminded that neighboring buildings, which are built upon pilings driven at least 50 feet into the bedrock, are not at risk.
Additional information will be provided as it becomes available.

Also I was able to get a quote form Tom Greaney Possibel 2nd Ward Cand, idate next May on Friday regarding the incident. Here is what Tom had to say:
"I am grateful that nobody was hurt in today's event. Clearly Hoboken has significant infrastructure problems that need to be addressed. The response from mayor Zimmer, her directors the emergency services and Council Pesident Mrsh was swift and well coordinated. It is imperative that we all focus not just on solving this situation but in developing a comprehensive infrastructure review for the city."

Original Post 10/8/2010:
Around 4PM today a section of Sinatra Drive near Lua collapsed. I was able to stop by and get some night time shots of the collapse at around 9PM. I spoke with City officials and was able to confirm just about every detail provided by the City below. It is expected that more of the roadway will collapse and my observations confirmed that is likely.
Here are some photos I took of the collapse. The day time photos are courtesy of Eric Kurta and the night time shots I took with the Nikon D90 while on the scene.
Below is the City of Hoboken's updated statement from around 7:30 PM:
SINATRA DRIVE ROAD COLLAPSE
A major roadway collapse occurred shortly after 4pm today on Sinatra Drive near 13th Street. There have been no injuries as a result of the collapse. According to the County engineer, additional portions of the road are expected to collapse due to the tides.
This road was built by Hudson County and the sidewalk and pier were built by Applied Housing, and they will be working together to repair the road. Hoboken's City engineer will be involved in the process to ensure that the repairs are completed as expeditiously as possible. The costs of repairs will not be the responsibility of the City of Hoboken.
The area has been secured with fencing and barriers, and police will remain in the area to ensure the safety of the public. Access to Lua will be available at their side door near Basic Learning. Hudson County and Applied will be providing security with the Hoboken Police Department providing relief as needed.
It is estimated that repairs will take between two and four weeks, however we will know more after engineers have a chance to more fully evaluate the situation.
According to engineers, the building at 1300 Sinatra Drive also known as the Constitution Building is structurally sound.
It is anticipated that the uptown ferry terminal will reopen by 11:30pm on Friday, October 8th.
Mayor Dawn Zimmer thanks the Hoboken Police Department, Hoboken Fire Department, the Environmental Services Department, the Office of Emergency Management team, the Hudson County Sheriff's Office, the Hudson County engineer and Applied Housing. We regret the inconvenience to Hoboken residents. The City will be working to ensure the road is repaired as quickly as possible. ◦
