Last night Tim Occhipinti hosted a community meeting at 56 Monroe Street for Hoboken residents and members of the Jersey City group "No Gas Pipeline." According to Tim's website, about 30 people were in attendance. There is a good recap of this at Hoboken Now by writer Katie Colineri. Below is the link...

Also the article Katie mentions a letter from Dawn Zimmer to Spectra dated 10/1/2010 opposing the plan. The letter is attached below as proof that Dawn has taken some action on the proposal:
Despite Tim Occhipinti's assertions that the Administration has not done anything the existence of this letter is proof that the Mayor has indeed done something and it wasn't grandstanding.
Here is a copy of the flyer that was distributed in the 4th Ward before the meeting using a good degree of scare tactics:
My comment: This ends the fact check section and so now on to a response from the Mike Lenz's campaign on Tim's actions. In this case I agree with The Mayor and Tim that a pipeline of this magnitude going through NJ with only a benefit to NYC residents is of a major concern. I need to know more than condemn it but the risks are apparent. The fact is that a project of this size shoul generate concern and all industrial structures carry with them risks but lets not use fear without an analysis of the risks and rewards beforehand. There is a right way to do things and self-rule as Mayor Zimmer is an important concept regarding the approval of projects of this scope.
Here is a response from Sam Briggs, Mike Lenz's campaign manager:
"Once again Tim Occhpinti is more interested in grandstanding than actually working for change in Hoboken. Had he contacted City Hall, his Councilman, Mike Lenz, or his supporters Ruben Ramos and Mike Russo, he would have been informed that Mayor Zimmer has been working to move the proposed pipeline away from our city, the PATH, and residential areas.
On October 1st she even sent a letter in opposition to this plan to the US Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, Senator Menendez, Congressman Sires, State Senator Stack, Assemblyman Ruben Ramos, Assemblywoman Rodriguez, Jersey City Mayor Healy, Bayonne Mayor Smith, Jersey City Councilmembers, and Hoboken Councilmembers.
Not only does Tim's grandstanding on the pipeline issue demonstrate his lack of knowledge of the Issue and how City Government can work to create change, it again shows that he is unwilling to work with City Hall and the current councilmembers to move our city forward. At this pivotal point in Hoboken's history, we can’t afford another Councilperson whose only real agenda is grandstanding for the purpose of obstructing the progress being made by this administration."
