Mayor Zimmer: Wants to Move the St. Patrick's Parade to Wednesday

Apparently enough outrage on the parade
aftermath has prompted the Mayor to move
the parade to Wednesday for next year.
Dawn Zimmer held a meeting today at 2:30 PM at Hoboken City Hall to go over the Hoboken St. Patrick's Day Parade. Hoboken Patch tweeted that the Mayor wants to move the parade to Wednesday for next year. I was able to confirm with Juan Melli, City spokesperson that the Mayor does indeed want to move it to Wednesday for next year and that it is the Mayor's decision. The parade committee can decide whether or not they want to cancel next year or not.

My Comment: Personally, I thought the police handled the parade as well as could be expected. I have always supported the parade and still do. Urinating and public nuisances are a common occurrence on Friday and Saturday nights in town. It doesn't make it excusable but perhaps the sheer scale of the debauchery is too much for many people.   If there were 30 arrests and 30,000 attended the percentage of very bad apples is 1/10 of one percent. If 300 summonses were issued than the percent of bad apples is 1%. Regardless of whatever the final total is it is a shame that a few bad apples can ruin it for everyone else. I would have hoped that any decision would have been vetted over more time but I do understand the basis for it. I just wish more people could behave more responsibly. ◦
