Letter to the Editor - Jonathan M. Metsch

Here is a letter to the Editor from Jonathan M. Metsch on Peter Cammarano's fiscal record.

Peter Cammarano's Fiscal Record

Mr. Cammarano's constant repetition of his "one-plank" platform, on the Council's budget vote and state takeover, does not make it true. And it does not make fiscal sense.

Here's a partial litany of recent decisive financial mistakes under Roberts/Cammarano:

A $10 to 15 million structural budget deficit. The $1 million Parking"Meter-gate" fiasco. A $4.2 million unapproved retirement incentive plan. A$3.2 million pension contribution deferral. A $20 million cash flow note that matures in August 2009. Health benefits afforded to ineligible enrollees. PILOTs awarded that cost the city for infrastructure development with no "value added" to the City ("W" hotel giveaway, Church Towers renewal without any revisions). A bogus '08 hospital loss of $4 million v. audited $11 million loss (and city $52 million bond guarantee without sufficient collateral). A flat school tax rate but $3 million B.O.E budget increase due to additional ratables .

It appears Mr. Cammarano will go to any lengths necessary to revise history- in this case, that he is a Roberts protégé. He not only threw his mentor under the bus during the debate last week, he kept kicking Mayor Roberts time and time again to distance himself from their record. And what other shenanigans, malfeasance, chicanery, obfuscations and gimmicks will we find out about after the election is over?

- Jonathan M. Metsch, Dr.P.H.
