Hoboken Author, Laurie Fabiano, to Read from New Novel - November 11

Below is another interesting event at the Hoboken Historical Museum coming up this week:

On Wed., Nov. 11, at 7:30 pm, Hoboken author Laurie Fabiano will read from her new book, Elizabeth Street, A Novel Based on True Events. The "docu-novel" is a moving account of her Italian immigrant family's struggle with the notorious "Black Hand" mob in 1909, set against the backdrop of the Hudson-Fulton celebration commemorated in our exhibit. Her story brings to life a little-known but formative period in the experience of many Italian-American families. The event is free.

The author's mother's family left Little Italy for the Ironbound section of Newark, and she grew up in Cedar Grove, N.J. Thirty years ago, she moved to Hoboken, where her father's family's roots were, and where she raised her own family. She was a founder of the Hoboken Cultural Council, which planned the "Celebration '82" arts festival, and worked for Mayor Tom Vezzetti for three years. ◦
