Lenny Bruce was a pioneering comedian in his time. He had some pretty astute comments about the world and politics and many of them ring true today as they did back then. Although I generally support him, one of the few things I have disagreed with Peter Cunningham on was the initiative to curtail public speakers time at City Council meetings. I understand that there might have been an attempt to streamline meetings for efficiency but governmental processes differ from that of the corporate boardroom.
As Lenny Bruce says "Take away the right to say 'Fuck' and you take away the right to say 'Fuck the Government' ". That is a skill that Mason supporter and Zimmer detractor Lane Bajardi seems to have honed in lately and more importantly he has a right to regardless of how counterproductive it is. In the spirit of free speech people also have aright to call him a f*cking a-hole" for the disingenuousness and vileness of his statements. However, if they took that anger to heart it could send them to the same lonely place he is occupying right now. I myself prefer limericks!
Now, City Hall meetings might not accomplish much other than make for good theater, but at least it is good theater for a political junkie like me. Unfortunately this theater is subsidized by the taxpayer when progress bogs down like the City Garage.
