Reminder from City Hall:

Reminder
The City of Hoboken is holding a Public Visioning Meeting to discuss the Bicycle and Pedestrian Plan on Tuesday, August 3rd from 4:30pm to 7:30pm at the Multi-Service Center, 124 Grand Street.

The City of Hoboken, in collaboration with the Sweet Streets pedestrian and bicycle community advocacy group, was selected by the New Jersey Department of Transportation’s Office of Bicycle and Pedestrian Programs for Local Technical Assistance by The RBA Group in the development of a Comprehensive Bicycle and Pedestrian Plan.

All residents are invited to discuss potential improvements or connections for bicycling and walking and to set the vision and identify priorities for enhancing, expanding, and creating walking and bicycling opportunities throughout Hoboken.

Residents are encouraged to try leaving their cars at home and instead walk, cycle, or use public transportation to get to the meeting. The "Hop" is offering complimentary scheduled service from 4pm-6pm. Visit http://hobokennj.org/thehop for route information and to track the Hop.

About the Plan

Hoboken’s Bicycle and Pedestrian Plan will take a comprehensive approach to identifying capital improvements for enhancing, expanding, and creating walking and bicycling opportunities throughout the City. The Plan will define a system for creating an alternative transportation network that connects neighborhoods and amenities to allow residents and visitors, of all ages and abilities, ample choices for moving about the City.

The Plan dovetails with the City’s recent accomplishments of adding additional bike and pedestrian facilities throughout the city. As part of the comprehensive approach, the Plan will outline recommendations for the City in implementing strategies and performance measures to create safe streets that are bicyclist and pedestrian friendly and will direct the City towards resources for educating all users of the streets.

The City of Hoboken’s Bicycle and Pedestrian Plan is expected to be developed during the summer and fall months of 2010. The public will be continuously engaged during this project through the involvement of a project Steering Committee and outreach efforts including a public visioning workshop and a public open house to be held after the development of the preliminary Draft Plan.
