Fellow Citizens who are Concerned about Overdevelopment:
I am writing to encourage you to attend an appeal to the City Council by the Fund for a Better Waterfront (FBW) of zoning variances granted to Stevens Institute of Technology. The appeal will be heard on Wednesday, February 10, 2010 at 7 PM in City Hall, 94 Washington Street. (For more information, see FBW's discussion at http://www.betterwaterfront.com/news/00972010.shtml).
This appeal is the first of three appeals to the City Council of variances granted by the Zoning Board. I think that it is very important for Hoboken citizens who are concerned about how the Zoning Board's irresponsible actions undermine the laws created to protect our environment and diminish our quality of life to attend these appeals to become informed of the Zoning Board's abuse of its powers and to encourage the City Council to act on behalf of their constituents and overturn these variances.
I will also be making a separate appeal to the City Council of height and density variances granted to 226 Park Reality, LLC to increase the height and density to 4 stories / 4 units when only 3 stories / 3 units are permitted in the R1 zoning district in which 226 Park Avenue is located. My appeal could be heard as early as February 24, 2010, although it may be postponed. I will shortly be sending out more information concerning this appeal, which I believe is very important part of our collective effort to protect our neighborhoods from the spread of illegal and environmentally dangerous upzoning in Hoboken.
I encourage everyone to attend the FBW appeal hearing on Wednesday so that the Zoning Board and City Council will understand that we want our environment protected from overdevelopment.
Best wishes.
