Here is a brief note from Margeret O'Brien and today's announcement that the police layofss have been recinded while still restructuring the police department to be more efficient. The opinions expressed below are that of Margaret O'Brien and not of this editor although I do see this as a win-win for Hoboken and am glad to see her give credit for Dawn for her compromise. Here is her brief email:
"IMAGINE if this happens on all of the issues. REASONABLE people sitting down with other REASONABLE people. I am willing, always have been, and am NOT MAD at anybody ....Lombardi had to make some concessions, Zimmer had to make some concessions, and the CHIEF got his two cents worth in. THE BEST CAME FROM OVER ALL OF THEIR HEADS.....
there is a SOVEREIGN Power over Hoboken, always has been here, that is one reason we have the POLICEMAN's MASS.....VROOM St. Jersey City got in on it too. THERE WAS A GIANT RALLY for BACK TO SCHOOL and we were in CHURCH for several hours praying for
1. THE STUDENTS
2. THE COPS
3. THOSE IN CHARGE
and PUBLIC SAFETY AND THE CROSSING GUARDS GOT special prayers also...HOW CAN ANYONE LOSE ANYTHING WHEN THE SOVEREIGN POWER DECIDES WHAT TO DO AND WITH WHO..
All it takes is somebody to listen and some common sense. Zimmer didn't have a good handle on HOBOKEN, but she does now..THIS ISSUE has POLARIZED THE COMMUNITY...New and OLD and on the way in and out...
St. Ann's Priest is a gentleman and offered his hand in friendship, and Dawn took it and worked with it. THAT SHOWS she is a HOBOKENITE just like the rest of us, and her critics cannot deny any part of it.
Hope this works all the time...for every issue...I will help when I can and that is often...
Margaret O'Brien"
My comment: I hope the tone will change somehwat in Hoboken's political discourse as a result of this two-way decision. Time will tell.
