New Reader Poll- Is Mike Russo Knowledgable on Matters of Municipal Finance?
Hoboken 3rd Ward Councilman Mike Russo who ironically has the support of Hoboken 411's Perry Klaussen at the last Hoboken City Council meeting stated that because the City Council was doing a transfer of funds that would lead to an emergency appropriation. 4th Ward Councilman Mike Lenz corrected him and that is the motivation behind this poll.

Poll of the Week Results - Beth Mason
I did a poll for the last week that is now closed and here are the results when I asked:

Now web polls aren't scientific but a majority of Hoboken Journal readers 70% thought 2nd Ward Councilwoman Beth "Cash Money" Mason was both a hypocrite and and obstructionist. The poll allowed more than one answer. Only 10% thought Beth was either wonderful or adequate. Much work needs to be done before her husband Ricky writes more checks. ◦
Political Video - Dale Peterson (AL) "We are Republicans, We should be better than that"
Here is an entertaining and possibly effective political video of Dale Peterson (AL) who is a Republican running for Commissioner of Agriculture in Alabama. I wonder if the gun toting posturing would work in Hudson County. His best quote is: "We are Republicans, We should be better than that!"
Dale Peterson is quite simply taking folksy and cantankerous to a new level in the annals of political ad history.

My Comment: I included this video since perhaps Beth Mason could try this approach to resurrect her political career. Clearly trying to go after Governor Christie didn't work too well yesterday so if you can't beat em', join em'. After all the money Beth Mason has spent for bad advice on political strategy I figured I would donate this free of charge. Tarnation! Could you picture Mason on a horse (not MSV blogger Roman Brice) toting a shotgun! Cherish the thought! ◦

Since I know these remarks will not be posted on Hoboken 411, here are Mayor Dawn Zimmer's prepared remarks from new communication employee (tsar if you are feeling fascist) Juan Melli of Hoboken City Hall......
"Nothing partisan" about fiscal responsibility
HOBOKEN, NJ -- Mayor Dawn Zimmer welcomed Governor Chris Christie to Hoboken Monday morning for his first town hall meeting to discuss a set of proposals to control property taxes in New Jersey.
Speaking before 125 residents at the Hoboken Catholic Academy, Mayor Zimmer outlined Hoboken's fiscally questionable past and drew parallels between New Jersey's and Hoboken's fiscal troubles:
"We have followed the same fiscally shortsighted practices that administrations of both parties have followed at the state level. We have spent more than we could afford, and plugged our deficits with one-shot gimmicks and by borrowing from our future."
The 33-bill package proposed by Governor Christie includes a constitutional amendment to impose a 2.5% cap on increases in the property tax levy and state spending as well as a series of measures to reduce costs at the municipal, school and higher education levels.
"This is not a Republican or a Democratic issue," added Zimmer. "There’s nothing partisan about being smart and responsible with the money entrusted to us by our citizens."
Emphasizing the need for a series of tools to help Hoboken control its costs in the face of reduced state aid, Mayor Zimmer urged the New Jersey legislature to pass the municipal "toolkit" proposed by Governor Christie. Her full remarks as prepared for delivery are below.....

Hoboken Vid Cap of the Day - Does Beth Mason See the Light?
Here is today's video capture (vid cap) of the day. Second Ward Councilwoman Beth Mason, ever grasping for her moment in the media was in attendance at the town hall meeting with Governor Christie and Mayor Zimmer this morning. Beth Mason asked a question regarding transportation funding in a lighting setting that reminded me of the Blues Brothers in the gospel church headed up by James Brown. You know, the scene when Jake gets a message from God to put the band back together. Indeed a bright light appeared behind her and the sun also shined though the window at the time of her questioning. Was this a chance for Beth Mason to have a religious experience and finally see the light or will we get more of the same old nay-saying obstructionist? Time will tell.

This morning, Governor Chris Christie had a town hall meeting in Hoboken to discuss reforms at the State level to allow municipalities to streamline their operations involving many bills to help local governments contain costs.
Roman Brice of the Mile Square View blog (http://hobokenhorse.blogspot.com/) was on site and provided the complete meeting using a mobile device and US Stream. This feed was not on Hoboken 411 or any other local news source to the best of my knowledge. A big hat tip to "Da Horsey" for his efforts on this.
