With the Superbowl coming up tomorrow I have football on the brain and found this clip of local interest...
The clip below shows the final minutes of the 1986 Div III State Championship football game between Bergenfield (NJ) and Hoboken (NJ). According to the maker of this video, frustrated Hoboken fans instigated a bench-clearing brawl. The final score of the game was Bergenfield 52, Hoboken 8.
Some of the pro Hoboken comments indicate that perhaps the Bergenfield Fire Department watered down the field before the game to negate the speed advantage of Hoboken's very fast run and shoot offense oriented team according to commentor Steven Basso. That is one side of the story.
From the other side this comment from a Bergenfield fan on the Youtube thread caught my attention as it applies to the out of district issue of Hoboken Schools as far back as 1986...
"Well well, a Hoboken proponent. Why don't you tell the nice people on youtube all about how your former program uses OUT OF DISTRICT players on your football teams. You know, all those players from Newark, East Orange, Irvington, etc, that use fake addresses in order to play for Hoboken. I played for North Bergen a few years ago for Coach Ascolese. I know what you people do in Hoboken. YOU are the real cheaters."

Here is the video of the end of that 1986 champioship game:
I for one am not taking sides here but if it is true that Begenfield watered down the field before the game it is pure genius. Not sportsmanlike but genius. Controversy seems to follow Hoboken across many aspects of life and periods of time. ◦
