Mayor Thanks Employees and Community for Snow Response

Here is an update from the Zimmer Administration on the snow response. There is some important information as well regarding parking and environmental enforcement.

MAYOR ZIMMER THANKS COMMUNITY AND EMPLOYEES FOR SNOW RESPONSE

“I want to thank residents for heeding the message to stay off of emergency snow routes. We were able to clear much of Washington Street and Willow Avenue without towing any cars, which kept our community safe through this storm and made the process of clearing snow much more efficient,” said Mayor Dawn Zimmer. “We did have to tow vehicles to clear other emergency routes in priority order until we literally ran out of space in the tow lot and our municipal garage. I’m glad that through various methods including a Reverse 911 call, a robocall to parking permit holders, the Nixle alert system, and on-street police officers using PA systems, the message got out to most residents. We will continue to use these and other tools in the future to alert the community.”

Residents may park along emergency snow routes as of noon today. Alternate side street parking regulations will resume tomorrow. Parking meters will be enforced as of noon today. Snow removal in the City’s parks is ongoing.

Property owners and residents are reminded that their sidewalks must be cleared of snow within 6 hours after the end of snowfall and are urged to assist elderly or disabled neighbors with clearing of snow. It is illegal to shovel snow back onto the street or onto fire hydrants. Inspectors will begin issuing citations at noon.

“Our hard-working employees in Environmental Services, the Police and Fire Department, the Office of Emergency Management, the Parking Utility, and the volunteers from the Hoboken Volunteer Ambulance Corps did a great job through the night to clear our streets and keep our community safe,” added Mayor Zimmer.

The Emergency Operations Center will be closed as of 11am today. Residents with emergencies should call 911 or the Hoboken Police Department at 201-420-2100. After 11am, residents should call Environmental Services at 201-420-2049 for snow removal related requests.
