Tejal Desai has been appointed Assistant Comptroller for the City of Hoboken, effective today. Ms. Desai will be responsible for advising the Administration on the City’s financial condition and making recommendations on Hoboken’s fiscal policies and financial transactions. She will work under the direction of the Finance Director. Since October 2009, Ms. Desai has served on the Hoboken Municipal Hospital Authority’s (HMHA) Board of Commissioners, where soon after joining she became Finance Chair overseeing the Hospital’s budgeting and annual audit processes.

“I want to thank Tejal for her important contributions on the Authority’s Board of Commissioners, and I look forward to having her continue to serve Hoboken through her new role in the Finance Department,” said Mayor Dawn Zimmer.

“It has been a pleasure for me to serve as Finance Chair of the Authority’s Board,” said Ms. Desai. “The Authority has made significant progress on multiple fronts, including the initiative to privatize the Hospital, and I support these efforts. I wish the Board continued success.”

Ms. Desai is uniquely suited for her new role, bringing years of private sector experience in finance. She has worked in public finance investment banking for Bank of America and in the Corporate Treasury department of The Dow Chemical Company, where she managed their accounts receivables portfolio. Ms. Desai earned an M.B.A. from the University of Chicago.

Ms. Desai resigned from her role on the HMHA Board. Commissioner Steven Rofsky will assume the position of Finance Chair.
