Republicans of Hoboken host Redistricting Meeting.
In February, the Census Bureau shipped Local 2010 Census Data to New Jersey. Since then, redistricting season has been proceeding across the state as it does after every census.
This decision on Sunday, April 3, 2011 will have an effect on the landscape of New Jersey's US congressional districts and both houses of our state legislature.
Redistricting for our county government (Board of Freeholders) and local government (City Council) have not been decided.
The re-drawing of the districts for our county government, the Hudson County Board of Chosen Freeholders, is of particular urgency as seats on this body are up for election this November for a three-year term.
Unnecessary delay in the redrawing of these districts will result in a three-year term to the county legislature that no longer reflects the population distribution of the county. Any effort to ignore the new population distribution in Hudson County will particularly disenfranchise Hoboken voters as our municipal population grew almost 30%. This is more than anywhere else in Hudson County.
In an effort to protect and inform the voters of Hoboken, the Republicans of Hoboken Chair, Diana Davis announced theywill be hosting a meeting.
Dr. Stephen DeLuca, SJD Lead Counsel for the Hudson County Republican Party, will update residents on what has been happening regarding the Hoboken/Jersey City Freeholder District.
Attending will be Mayor Dawn Zimmer, County Republican Chair, Jose Arango and Hoboken Democratic Committee Vice-Chair, Phil Cohen
