Hoboken 411 Reader Mail Parody- Rotten Bench

Here is the first of a series of simulated reader mail that is a parody of what is published on Hoboken 411. Hoboken 411 is the pro-Mason/Russo co-opted website of deceit and conceit that will twist the truth until it no longer represents even a smidgen of reality and becomes a full fledged lie.

Here is a parody of one such email from reader Dee Kay (who has a touch of Hoboken 411 Zimmer antipathy, Jerry Springer, and old guard mentality all fused into one big ignorant hate cocktail), She writes on the sorry state of a bench outside City Hall that she blames exclusively on Mayor Dawn Zimmer.

Dear Editor,

I was waiting to be picked up by a friend after paying a parking ticket since I insist on parking wherever I want to when I want to. No Ian Sacs is going to tell me where I can park my car. I have lived here longer than Ian Sacs and Mayor Dawn Zimmer and no uppity newcomer is going to take away my advantages in selective parking enforcement. And those damn Corner Cars! Don't  get me started. Talk to the hand! Anyway  I digress....

While waiting outside City Hall on Newark Street I sat in this bench and couldn't believe the state of disrepair it is in. The best part was that the Carpentry Division van was parked right next to the bench. How could the City Carpenters see this park bench the way it is and not try to fix it. I can see someone like ambulance chaser Bruce Gates suing the City on behalf of one of his clients for the pain and suffering caused by excessive splinters. That Mayor Dawn Zimmer has been a real disappointment. She should fix that bench or get someone to fix it pronto. Maybe that Timmy guy should be our next Mayor instead. Beth Mason thinks he's smart. I also would blame Zimmer for global warming but it doesn't exist Anyway I digress. Back to my meds.

Sincerely,

Dee Kay

Dee Kay Submitted these photos of the City of Hoboken's sub-par bench.

My Comment: Please keep in mind that this is a parody and opinions of the mistress of entropy Dee Kay are not necessarily those of the Hoboken Journal.

The Hoboken Advocate- Support the Sale of the HUMC Tomorrow

Here is a note from the Hoboken Advocate on why you as a concerned taxpayer should speak up tomorrow at the open meeting on the sale of the HUMC and our Lady of Grace Church Annex in Hobken.

Please come to the Hospital meeting tomorrow at 6:00 at our Lady of Grace. Your appearance and support is critical!

The Unions and insurance companies don't want this deal to go through and will be going to the mic in droves. We need the voice of reason to show up and support the sale.

The hospital WILL CLOSE if this deal does not go through and the TAXPAYER WILL BE CAUGHT HOLDING THE BAG.

Outside unions will be coming to support the local union. Beth Mason will have her paid anti-Zimmer supporters including Appleseed - a supposed non-profit who will be advocating against the deal.

Insurance companies have penned favorable deals with the hospital which they don't want to see voided with the sale. These HMOs pay nothing and the hospital cannot survive because of them. They will be opposed to the sale because of their own vested interests.

Please come and speak to support the deal. I only write you when your participation is needed. Please come.

The Hoboken University Medical Center (HUMC) Board under Toni Tomorazzo have penned a great deal to sell the HUMC to the Bayonne Medical Center (Hold Co is the name of the holding company).

The deal will preserve the emergency room for at least 7 years and will relieve the taxpayer of a $52MM bond plus current payroll culminating is about $65MM in liability.

Beth Mason and the Corruptocrats want to spin this in a bad light in order to write their campaign literature in 18 months.

FORWARD THIS TO AS MANY PEOPLE YOU KNOW TO HAVE THEM SIGN IT TOO. THE BOARD NEEDS YOUR SUPPORT.

The Current State of the Hospital will bring Hoboken to financial Ruin. Hoboken needs this Sale to Go Through.

The Hoboken University Medical Center loses about $1MM a month. The Foundation raises only about $1MM a year and in 2010 only 1.6% went to cover the Hospital's losses.

The Hoboken taxpayer is on the hook for a $52MM bond plus current payroll in the event that the Hospital goes bankrupt. (About $65MM)

The Hoboken University Medical Center Board has negotiated a good deal with Bayonne Medical Center to sell the hospital and relieve the taxpayer of this looming debt. The deal requires that Bayonne maintain the emergency room for at least 7 years. The rest of the building will be used as they see fit within Hoboken's zoning laws.

Unions, employees and their families don't want Hoboken to sell the hospital because the lack of efficiency will most certainly be weeded out after the sale. There is no way that any operation can live in perpetuity at a lose so change is certain with the sale.

Show your support for the decision to sell the hospital so that all of the staff at the Hospital know this is the will of the people.

I am asking for name, address, email and comments. I am asking for this so that I can check your name against a directory to eliminate prank signers. We want a solid petition with valid signatures.

Please forward this to all you know who care about Hoboken's tax rate.

My comment: I am sympathetic to the Union members who may lose their jobs in this but I can't honestly see the hospital going forward as a standalone entity any longer. They are bleeding red ink every month. Everything must be put on the table to re-organize all contracts and at least put the hospital at break even status down the line. I agree with the Hoboken Advocate in principle on this as I see no other way to save the hospital and as many jobs as possible by having this deal happen and soon. ◦

Zimmer Urges Residents and Taxpayers to Support Hospital Sale

On Thursday, July 21, 2011, 6:00 – 8:00pm there will be a public hearing on the proposed sale of the HUMC. Mayor Dawn Zimmer urges people to support this transaction to save the Hospital. Here is her email below sent from her political email account.

Dear friends,

Please come and join a community meeting with the State Health Dept. this Thursday, 6-8 pm at Our Lady of Grace Church, to help save our hospital and save our taxpayers.

The proposed sale of the Hospital to the principal owners of Bayonne Medical Center is a huge opportunity for our City, an enormous win for all of our residents.

The transaction achieves two objectives few thought possible – it both saves the Hospital and relieves the City of its potentially crippling $52 million loan guaranty.

I urge you to make your voice heard to help this incredible opportunity succeed. The alternative we face if this transaction doesn’t succeed is bleak.

Without this sale the hospital will close. The financial situation at the hospital is severe, and there is no time to negotiate another deal.

Opponents of this transaction, for their own personal reasons not reflecting the interests of Hoboken’s residents, claim that the Hospital can survive even if this transaction fails.

They are simply wrong.

Unfortunately, it is the residents of Hoboken who will pay the price for their mistake if they are successful in sabotaging the sale. The reality of HUMC‘s financial situation is that there is simply no other choice.

If the proposed sale does not succeed and the hospital is forced to close, the City will not only lose a vital institution that has served our community for 150 years, we will face the financially crippling reality of having to satisfy our $52 million bond obligation, as well as millions of dollars of additional costs associated with closing
the hospital.

This will likely result in higher taxes and reduced City services, damaging both the finances and quality of life of Hoboken’s residents.

Here's all the information for the meeting this Thursday:

What: Special request from Mayor Zimmer regarding sale of Hospital
What’s involved: Speaking for 3 minutes in support of sale of HUMC to principal owners of Bayonne Medical Center
Why:  Selling HUMC will save our hospital and the taxpayers of Hoboken
When:    Thursday, July 21, 2011, 6:00 – 8:00 pm
Where:   Our Lady of Grace Church, 422 Willow Avenue

Please come and speak if you can. Thanks for listening.

- [Mayor] Dawn [Zimmer]

Photo of the Day and Poll- Peter Cammarano Picking up Trash

Today's photo of the day is that of former Mayor Peter Cammarano picking up trash in 2009. This was before operation "Bid Rig" and all the craziness that ensued after he had just 23 days in office. The incarcerated Peter Cammarano was back in the traditional news last week when NJ.com and the Hudson Reporter finally got around to the story that was broken by the Grafix Avenger blog almost a month ago. Peter Cammarano is getting out early in March of 2012.  That is a significant reduction in his sentence of two years! It has some concluding that the only way that happens is that he gave the Feds something. You don't get that reduction from good behavior in the klink.

Former Mayor Peter Cammarano picking up trash in Hoboken in 2009.
Note to Pete: The job of picking up trash is not yet complete.
The Feds will have to step in. Thanks for talking (presumably).

Today's poll asks you the reader if his sentence should have been reduced further. Some felt two years was not enough for the violation of the Public trust. I suppose it is a very good thing that the FBI caught him early in his term. If the assumption that he is talking turns out to be true, he could very well  be the star witness/informant that precipitates the downfall of many of the old guard. At this point it is all speculation but there is a feeling something big could go down. I remain skeptical that optimistic that Feds will find something. I just don't know yet.

Express yourself in the poll below. Do you think if Peter Cammarano should have had his sentence reduced as much as it has been reported to have been shortened?

Is Hoboken 411 Authentically Local with All these Bots from Japan?

Perry Klaussen- F*&k you Hoboken, I am
Authentically Local! Not!
The Hoboken Journal broke the story of Hoboken 411's gaming the total Twitter followers just this last weekend. Here is the follow up which is to report on his feeble attempt to cover his tracks...

Perry Klaussen, Beth Mason-Russo blogger and owner of Hoboken 411 was using "bots" from Japan to take his traffic from 3,100 followers to over 4,300 in the span of a few short weeks. The count is now over 4,900 and growing. That would be great news for his advertisers but any numbers over 3,100 are very suspect and I believe are predominately from Japanese web twitter bots. To hide his misdeeds he blocked my account from seeing his latest totals but I know enough to get around his feeble attempts to hide the truth about Hoboken 411.

The truth to Klaussen is nothing but lies. Lies about politics and lies about his true Twitter audience. "Keeping Hoboken honest since 2006", yeah right! Why doesn't Perry Klaussen start with himself? If he even once tells an advertiser his fake Twitter numbers that is fraud. Note to advertisers: beware of large pizza eating man promoting false website numbers.

Now in all fairness, his site has been around since 2006 and to have the 3,100 Twitter followers he had before is an impressive feat which I believe grew organically. Of course The Boken now has over 5,100 Twitter followers not using bots so I am not sure what he hopes to gain by extending this number to exceed that of competitor websites TheBokenOnline, H-Mag, Eat Drink Hoboken and even Hoboken Patch. Certainly not if he wants people to really believe his website is "Authentically Local" as he likes to brag about. What is "Authentically Local" about bots from Japan to bump up your twitter followers? Answer: nothing.

Kurt Gardiner for Freeholder - Columbus Park in Hoboken

Kurt Gardiner for Freeholder- Columbus Park Overview

This is the continuation of the Hudson County Park series that I started last week with Washington Park that services Jersey City Heights. This week I will give an overview of Columbus Park, Hoboken’s only Hudson County park.

Columbus Park as well as all of the other 8 Hudson County parks was built after World War One so it is important to understand that these were established when needs may have been different for constituents and urban planning had a different philosophy than at present.

This Saturday, I was able to walk though Columbus Park and make the following observations. Here is summary of both the assets of the park as well as some of the areas that need improvement…

Positive Observations of Columbus Park:
  • The people I was able to talk to really like the park overall and some even say they take their kids there every day.
  • It has really nice old trees that give great shade in the summertime heat.
  • The rectangular building is historic and can be used for certain events like dance classes, special events.
  • There are tennis courts and a basketball half-court.
  • There is a nice jungle gym for the kids.
  • There is a sprinkler/shower the kids can use to cool off in the summer.
  • People seem to really enjoy relaxing there based on my observations.
  • Of course, being a Mile Square City, you can walk to it from Hoboken.

Areas for Improvement for Columbus Park:
  • The flowerbeds are really in bad shape with flowers dying. The soil needs to be improved and new sustainable planting need to be put in their stead.
  • This is not my idea as several people mentioned this: Put a bid out to vendors to have a small café in the rectangular building. It would add a nice dynamic to the park. There is storage in the basement that makes this feasible.
  • Several bushes are way overgrown and need to be pruned.
  • Some other plantings need to be weeded.
  • There is an old rusty payphone stand that has no phone. This can be removed.
  • The lights in the park could be replaced with something nicer. They are quite utilitarian at best or ugly at worst. Maybe a Green Acres grant is in order.
  • There are leaves that appear to b from last fall that need to be raked up.
  • Some areas need to be re-sodded where there is dirt.
  • At some point perhaps an overall provisioning of the Park is in order to see how it could be improved even more. Do we really need two flag pole areas? Perhaps we could have two poles in one of the areas and free up the space somehwere else? Just a suggestion.
Overall, Columbus Park is a great asset to Hoboken but I am concerned about some simple maintenance issues that could be addressed. This park is in Current Freeholder Anthony Romano’s backyard and yet these issues persist. It seems that a lot of money went into Washington Park for Jersey City Heights although the multi-sport field proposal seems at this point to lack a proper planning process and public input. Where is the love for Hoboken’s only Park?

Anthony Romano is generally considered an affable guy (even by me) but I feel he should also put some attention into his home town and deliver some bacon here and Columbus Park could use a littel more TLC. What has Anthony Romano really done to improve Columbus Park in his three year term? The silence that results could be due to County politics or some level of apathy. Hoboken and Jersey City Heights needs an advocate that cares about both parks that service District 5. At least I will offer voters a choice come November.

Park issues are just one of the reasons why I am running for Freeholder. Coming up is the drawing for ballot positions on August 15th. Again, I am Kurt Gardiner and I am running for Freeholder District 5 in November of 2011. Send any concerns to kurt.gardiner@gmail.com on any County issues you think need to be addressed until I get my campaign website up and running.

Below are some photos of Columbus Park:

Perry Klaussen of Hoboken411 uses Bots to Pump up Twitter Followers Numbers

About a month ago, Hoboken 411 had about 3,100 Twitter Followers. Certainly over 3,100 followers is an impressive feat for one of the early blogs to surface about Hoboken which was founded in 2006. As of tonight the Hoboken 411 Twitter Feed @hoboken411 has over 4,300 followers. Wow! How did he get over 1,000 new followers in over a month? Good question. Well the investigative powers of The Hoboken Journal have the answer. Bots. Plenty of Bots from foreign lands. Take a gander at who has signed up now for Hoboken411. Are they from Hoboken? No. Are they from NYC or nearby? No. They are from Asia! And they don't even appear to be human!

Note to advertisers who still shell out money to Hoboken 411 and waste it, the website market in Hoboken is very fragmented and I have always suspected that his traffic numbers aren't what he claimed them to be. Now, at least with respect to Twitter I have proof that he uses Bots to boost up at least his Twitter followers. If he fudges his numbers for Twitter, what is to stop him from doing that for his website traffic numbers?

Perry Klaussen of Hoboken 411

What prompted this was that over at a sister blog that I edit, http://www.thebokenonline.com/, I was able to get us to 5,000 Twitter Followers by reaching out to individual readers and messaging them to join. It was s monotonous work but I didn't take any short cuts. Now I don't doubt that some of those accounts have nothing to do with anything remotely local but I can vouch that most of the newer followers have at least some interest in Hoboken. Here is the latest evidence that you simply can't trust on metrics coming from Perry Klaussen over at Hoboken 411. Just ask Nazumono_bot, AmiHarukazeBot, kakoubun_bot, etc. if they have ever heard of Hoboken. Good lord, such a cheap trick. It makes what else is under the curtain over at Hoboken 411. It gets ugly from here folks. This is an absolute act of desperation from the former Hoboken King of the Hill of Hoboken Blogs (until he sold out to Beth Mason) Perry Kooky Kontrived Killer Klown Krazy Shorts Klaussen.

Letter from JNESO on HUMC Sale

The local Nurses Union JNESO has been busy prior to the proposed public hearing of the HUMC sale on July 21st. They have been spotted handing out flyers this week near the PATH station warning against Bayonne Medical Group from taking over the HUMC. Here is a letter from them dated 7-7-2011 that breaks out what impact the sale of HUMC Holdco will have on their membership. It is a bit brutal but the current financials of the hospital are also brutal. The Hospital has bled money before the creation of the HUMC and ever since it was formed. Everyone in the union technically will lose their job and then have to re-apply and only 75% are guaranteed their job as per the current deal. Yes, this is the reality of this transaction for them.

If somehow a magic wand could be waved and make the insurance carriers pay the Hospital above or at least cost for most services and patient demand again to magically fill all hospital beds then Hoboken would not be in this mess. But that is fantasy. At some point the community as a whole has to accept that there might simply not be enough demand for services to have to the hospital run as it is currently. Due to its geographical constraints, Hoboken should have and acute care facility and a quality ER. I never thought Hoboken should have footed the whole bill when over half of the people who use the hospital don't live in Hoboken. With the Hospital being merged, perhaps they will have the leverage to get better rates. If you want to save jobs that is how it gets done.

Since true Nationally run Health care isn't a politically viable option and Hoboken can't afford another round of financing for a financially unviable standalone hospital, privatization and a merger is the only way this can possibly get done. Local municipalities can't print money and the state stabilization funds won't get the hospital though this year. According to a source, The HUMC hasn't paid it electrical bill to PSEG for a very long time. Do the Union members of JNESO think that PSEG utility workers shouldn't get paid because the Hospital jobs need to be saved? Welcome to the harsh reality of trying to run a hospital in this current political and economic climate.

Spiros Hatiras CEO Out at HUMC

Here is the latest development at the HUMC. Management shakeup is usually part of a transitional sale that involves a merger. This should come with little surprise.

HOBOKEN MUNICIPAL HOSPITAL AUTHORITY ANNOUNCES LEADERSHIP CHANGE AT HOBOKEN UNIVERSITY MEDICAL CENTER

CEO Spiros Hatiras Steps Aside; Chief Financial Officer Vincent Riccitelli to Assume Role

The Hoboken Municipal Hospital Authority (HMHA) announced today that Spiros Hatiras has stepped down as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Hoboken University Medical Center (HUMC) by mutual agreement with HMHA.

HMHA thanks Mr. Hatiras and wishes him well in his future endeavors. He will be pursuing other professional opportunities after he spends time with his father who is in failing health.

Mr. Vincent Riccitelli, currently the acting Chief Financial Officer at HUMC, has agreed to serve as acting CEO. He will remain in this capacity until the sale of HUMC is complete. At that time, it is anticipated that a new CEO will be named by HUMC Holdco.

“During this transitional period, Mr. Riccitelli will work closely with Hoboken Mayor Dawn Zimmer, HMHA and me to help employees and residents understand the importance of completing the sale to HUMC Holdco, under common ownership of the principals of Bayonne Medical Center,” says Toni Tomarazzo, HMHA chairperson. “We will continue to engage these key constituents to ensure they understand that this change of ownership is the only way to save the hospital.”

“We are close to completing the sale of our hospital to HUMC Holdco,” adds Riccitelli. “This agreement will lead to long-term benefits for our staff and our community. Our new owner has access to capital to attract and retain quality health care providers, finance improvements, initiate new program development, acquire advanced technology, and maintain the hospital as the life saving acute care unit that we and the citizens of Hoboken deserve. The Mayor and HMHA have worked tirelessly to save our hospital and I’m honored to be part of the team that will help complete the transaction.” ◦
