Hoboken High School Harvard Model Congress Recap

Here is a story about some good things happening in Hoboken's High Schools.......

Hoboken HS Excels at Harvard Model Congress Competition in San Francisco

Hoboken High School senior Jordan DeJesus won a national Excellence Award at the 2010 Harvard Model Congress in San Francisco this January. DeJesus, along with eleven members of the Hoboken High School team, portrayed members of the United States government. In his role as Senator Harry Reed (R), DeJesus debated and drafted legislation in the Senate and Environment and Public Works Committee.

The American government simulation is entirely organized and run by Harvard University students whose aim is to encourage high school students to get involved in their communities and the political process.

On their morning off, students explored the city of San Francisco and traveled to the Stanford University campus. Students also met up with Hoboken High School alumnae and former HMC member, Yomaira Figueroa, who is presently working on her PhD at the University of California Berkeley.

Hoboken High School Harvard Model Congress 2010 team members were:

Micheal Burns, Jordan DeJesus, James Fisher, Gabrielle Frederick, Francis Howitt, Alice Lichtchouk, Frances “Duke” McCourt, Samantha Perkins, Samantha Scios, Bryan Vega, and Paula Velasquez.
