Zimmer Against 57% PATH Fare Increase

Mayor Dawn Zimmer issued this statement about the proposed 57% fare hike by the Port Authority for PATH passengers. The Mayor is against it and for once appears to be in agreement with State Assemblyman Ruben Ramos as reported on Hoboken Patch that the fair hike is wrong. I am sure however that they come about that conclusion via different perspectives. Here is the mayor's brief statement.

STATEMENT FROM MAYOR ZIMMER ON PROPOSED PATH FARE INCREASE

I am concerned that the Port Authority’s proposed 57 percent fare increase for PATH passengers is counterproductive to our shared goal of incentivizing and encouraging public transportation use. Unless and until the Port Authority addresses overcrowding issues during peak commuter periods, a fare increase of this magnitude is unfair and premature.
