Jersey Journal Endorses Peter Cammarano

Peter Cammarano was endorsed by the Jersey Journal yesterday. Here is the introduction:

"The Jersey Journal endorses Councilman at Large Peter Cammarano for mayor of Hoboken in Tuesday's election.

This newspaper considers the 31-year-old attorney at the Newark law firm of Genova, Burns and Vernoia and the 2006 statewide legal coordinator for Robert Menendez's successful U.S. Senate campaign as Hoboken's best person for stabilizing local taxes and making certain the city's land use follows its Master Plan.

My comment: Keep in mind that this is the same paper that endorsed Dave Roberts in 2005 for Mayor. Look at the state of affairs for our City today and honestly say to yourself, can I trust the judgement of this newspaper after making the call they did in 2005? The selling of City Assets and other bonding issues is what led to the cover up and eventual tax increase and guess who rubber stamped all 4 budgets of Roberts and approved all those bonds? That's right, the very candidate endorsed here.

If elected I do hope that Peter Cammarano's record as Mayor is completely different from his City Council record. As a taxpayer advocate that has followed events closely for over 6 years, I respectfully disagree with the Jersey Journal's assessment that Peter Cammarano is the best person to clean up the mess of Russo and Roberts. But as they say, opinions vary.

You simply can not spend what you do not have for operations. Maybe Auggie Torres' commentary would carry more weight if he actually owned property and lived in this city. I respect the years he has put in as a journalist and but he simply does not have "skin in the game" as I do.
