Scott Delea Endorses Dawn Zimmer

Here is an email I received from Scott Delea who once ran for City Council at Large in 2005 and Fifth Ward City Council in 2007. In the email he stresses to vote regardless of your choice and gives his thoughts behind why he is supporting Dawn Zimmer.

"The Hoboken mayoral election is 4 days away. I encourage all of you living in Hoboken to learn as much about the candidates as possible and make up your own mind, but please consider my thoughts below....

Most of all, be sure to vote on Tuesday.
All the best,

Scott "

Advice to Undecided Voters: Delea Endorses Zimmer

After years of mismanagement, insider deals, and a 47% tax increase, it is clear our city government is broken and in need of a major overhaul. The question is...which mayoral candidate is best prepared to lead our city through these difficult times?

I moved to Hoboken 10 years ago because I was attracted to its energy, small town feel, and diversity. But, I was shocked by how poorly our city government was run. Our budgets were full of gimmicks and waste. City council meetings were a joke and there was a severe lack of leadership. I was so disgusted and disappointed that I decided to do something about it and ran as an independent for city council. Most recently, I have taken a leadership role in the founding of two grassroots taxpayer groups called Hoboken Revolt and Lower Hoboken Taxes. Our goals are to hold our elected officials accountable to creating a more fiscally responsible and transparent government. These experiences have provided me with a "front row seat" to observe the workings of our city government and the people elected to represent us.

When evaluating the mayoral candidates, you find each has their merits and none are perfect. I have tremendous respect for all of them who have sacrificed their time, money, and privacy to seek higher office. But, after careful consideration, I believe Dawn Zimmer represents our best chance of creating a government we can be proud of. She realizes there are no "sacred cows" in our city budget and is willing to make the tough decisions necessary to reduce costs and lower taxes. She has been "right" on the issue of tax abatements (PILOTS), creating more open space, and leading by example. Dawn advocates for a more eco-friendly and progressive city which will make Hoboken a better place to live for all residents.

It has been said the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again but expecting different results. Well, we have been doing the same thing in this city for a long time. It is time for a new, fresh approach. Dawn represents positive change and I ask you to join me in voting for her on Tuesday, May 12th.
