Dawn Zimmer Swearing in Speech

Dawn Zimmer Swearing in Speech

Here is the swearing in speech transscript from yesterday where Dawn Zimmer was sworn in as acting Mayor after Peter Cammarano delivered his resignation letter via Steve Kleinman effective at 12 noon yesterday.

Here is the transcript of the speech:

Early this morning, Mayor Cammarano called to let me know he decided to resign. I commend him for making this decision. I am sure it was a difficult decision for him and his family, but I believe it is in the best interest of the people of Hoboken. Today, we begin the hard work of restoring confidence in City Government and tackling the serious problems that face Hoboken.

First, I want to say that I recognize this has been a traumatic experience for many Hoboken residents and City employees. I want everyone to know I am committed to open, honest and accountable government. I will draw on the skills, talents and energy of all of our residents to set a new direction for our City.

Now, we must move forward with innovative approaches to improve our quality of life. The last couple of days serve to remind us that flooding is still a major concern for our City. I will get to work immediately to address the problems facing our community.

I am confident that by working together, we can put Hoboken back on the right track and restore the reputation of our town. The eyes of the nation have been drawn to our story. I want the world outside Hoboken to know that we have a wonderful City filled with interesting and committed residents, great restaurants and cafes, and a wonderful small-town feel minutes away from New York City. We are a short PATH ride from the West Village and Midtown, with spectacular views of Manhattan. I invite everyone to visit our wonderful community.

Now it is time to get to work and do the people's business. Together with my Council colleagues and staff, that is exactly what I am going to do.

Thank you.
Acting Mayor Dawn Zimmer
