I stopped by the recently renovayed Hoboken Daily News on the corner of 5th and Washington and checked in with one of my favorite local business owners Andy. He is one of two brothers that runs the establishment and has been doing so for years. While the new 7-Eleven has many items that the Hoboken Daily News does not carry there is still overlap in terms of business between these two stores such as soda, milk, cigarettes and coffee. The Hoboken Daily News seems to be taking the lead on the coffee price war by offering coffee at $0.79 per cup vs. $0.99 per cup over at 7-Eleven. Will these be enough for these small business owners to stave off the evil corporate empire (just kidding a bit) or can these two businesses co-exist? According to Andy, many of his long term customers are remaining loyal.
