Hoboken Municipal Budget Workshop Recap from 1/30/2010

On Saturday January 30, 2010 the City of Hoboken held a comprehensive budget workshop regarding the 2010 municipal budget from 9:30 am to 4:45 pm. The following groups were able to present their departmental budgets:
  • Public Safety
  • Environmental Services
  • Health and Human Services

The meeting ran behind schedule due to the extensive Q and A on the line items presented by the above speakers. The following departments did not get to present their budget overviews for 2010:

  •  Community Development
  • Transportation and Parking Utility
  • Finance/Administration/Corporation Council/Courts
  • Office of Emergency Management

It was mentioned at the end of the meeting that these departments will present their budgets for 2010 in the appropriate subcommittee.

Editor's Comment: The meeting was comprehensive and I certainly learned a bit more about the cost components of Public Safety. I was disapointed that the police audit has not yet been released as well as the fire audit not really even being started. If one is to objectively look at the cost of what it should be to run public safety then an objective thrid party could give the City Council and Mayor's Office valuable information as to what shold be expected. Without that there was very little movement in salary which is the biggest component of the Public Safety budget. ◦
