Politickernj.com is reporting that a supporter of Timothy Occhipinti, "a newcomer who inherited the betrayed legion of disgraced mayor Peter Cammarano" has 622 absentee ballots before Labor Day.
The exact quote is:
"But one Occhipinti backer said proudly this week that 622 was the tally already, and absentee maven Frank Raia had yet to join the envelope party."
If that above quote is true that is a game changer and potentially casts a shadow of skulduggery over this special election before it even hits the home stretch. It is generally believed that based on last 4th Ward election results 800-900 votes could be enough to win the November special election and thus this amount of absentees seems out of line with what can be expected. Politicker NJ.com is usually very good with their coverage but I have to think this could be a misstatement. That number seems to be quite high even for the unsavory supporters of now guilty Peter Cammarano. This report could be referring to absentee ballot applications or the the amount from the June Mayoral runoff with Peter Cammarano. Stay tuned. Perhaps a clarification is in order.
