Tracy Turnblad, a large girl with big hair and a kind heart, has only one passion--to dance. She wins a spot on the local TV dance program, "The Corny Collins Show" and is quickly transformed into a teen celebrity. She then successfully sets out to vanquish the program's reigning princess, win the heart of the super handsome Link Larkin, and racially integrate the television show. Hoboken High School's Theatre Program has been winning statewide recognition since 1998 and its director, Paula Ohaus, won the Jimmy Award, from the Nederlander Alliances LLC and Pittsburgh CLO in June 2009. The award is named for James Nederlander, the legendary Broadway producer. Here is how her award was described:The Jimmy Award for an Outstanding Arts Education Program was presented to Paula Ohaus from Hoboken High School in Hoboken, New Jersey. She was nominated by Paper Mill Playhouse in New Jersey. The award was created to honor a high school teacher or administrator who demonstrated an enduring commitment to quality performing arts education. Ms. Ohaus is an example of the consummate artist/educator. She proactively seeks opportunities for her students to see live theater and to learn about the creative process and business. She also runs a young critics program. The award includes a $5,000 cash prize to be used for the winner's arts program.

My comment: The theater program at Hoboken High School is a really great program for the kids. I am looking forward to their latest production this weekend. ◦
