Lower Hoboken Taxes (LHT) will join efforts with Hoboken Revolt to have our voices heard at a rally on Wednesday, March 4th in front of City Hall. Obama Announces Ambitious $75 Billion Foreclosure Bailout
The NY Times has an article on Obama's new plan to bailout citizens with mortgage problems as a result of the housing crisis. The plan, which is more ambitious than expected, would spend $75 billion to help keep as many as four million families in their homes, and would help as many as five million more refinance their mortgages to take advantage of lower interest rates.

NJ Budget Shortfalls Now Total $3.6 Billion
There are three stories on NJ Budget Shortfalls that have come up recently. Just yesterday the Hoboken Journal had posted a link to an article about California's budget woes and asked is NJ next?

Faced with a deepening budget crisis and NJ's deficit up another $1.5 Billion to $3.6 billion this year, Gov. Jon Corzine today called for a two-day furlough of state workers and warned of more furloughs or layoffs if unions do not accept a wage freeze starting in July. In response, state officials are planning two unpaid furlough days for state employees, one each in May and June, saving $35 million. State Treasurer David Rousseau said the furloughs can be done without the consent of public worker unions, which have already objected to a proposed salary freeze.

My take: The Local Hoboken Unions need to take note of what is going around the country and the State of New Jersey in terms of budgetary shortfalls and manage their expectations during negotiations. This is not a dig or a slight on any City Employees, Fire Fighters, or Police Officers but just an observation on the economy as a whole and that the burden of this new era of diminished expectations must be shared by all. ◦

Elks Comedy Night - Friday March 6th
On March 6th, the day before St. Patrick's Day in Hoboken the Elks Club is holding a Comedy Night to benefit the Lucas Reling Cancer Fund. The entry fee is $25 for this good cause and includes a buffet dinner that starts at 8PM and a show at 9PM with many funny comics. Mark your calendars. Reservations are recommended. Take the Soutwest Traffic and Safety Survey - Stevens Institute Students
Keeping to the point that this blog just doesn't do Hoboken Politics, I am publishing this request from Stevens Instituate where students have takebn on the initiative to do a Southwest Hoboken Traffic and Safety Design Improvement Plan . I think this is a great idea that talented students such as Mike Manzella and Andrew Kaplan would take on this task and put ideas in the classroom to pragmatic use outside the classroom that could potentially benefit the citizens of Hoboken from a Public Safety perspective.

Ouch! That Hurts Just Looking at It
A friend sent me a link from http://www.failblog.org/ that shows one of the most unfortunate injures in male sports at any age and level. With Springtime not too far away (I hope) the soccer field at Sinatra Park will soon be filled with youth league soccer. I have caught some games on my walks along the waterfront. Some of those kids can really play. As always, my advice to parents of boys playing sports : make sure they always wear a cup. Consider this a Public Service Announcement.
