Tony Soares Letter to NJ Appleseed

Tony Soares sent this email to Renee Steinhagen of NJ Appleseed an organization that remarked on the HUMC negotiations last week by issuing a statement asking for more transparency. Here is Tony Soares' response to Ms. Steinhagen who issued the press release on behalf of her organization...

Dear Ms. Steinhagen,

As a former councilman and a true reformer unlike Beth Mason who funded absentee voter drives with are in the hands of Paula Dow, and supported this guy: http://bluejersey.com/diary/17458/red-flags-how-much-does-it-cost-to-buy-an-election-in-hobokens-4th-ward.

Perhaps you can "shine some light" on who the officers are of your client "The Coalition for Quality Healthcare Hoboken".

As I understand it, it is made up of a group including politicos and Ms Mason herself.

Could it be true that Ms Mason also gave to your organization?

I also would like to know if you have ever donated to any Hoboken elections? (Rumors are that you have) And since you follow rumors, perhaps this is one YOU can answer for the REAL citizens of Hoboken, rather than aide Mason and her quest to hurt a Hospital transaction that WE CITIZENS of Hoboken can no longer guarantee.

Thank you in advance

On Passover we have the "four questions". Tony has 4 excellent questions. I hope the voters of the 2nd Ward have many more questions regarding Beth Mason. I sure do.

Tony-

How about giving me a call if you want to understand NJ Appleseed's motivation. First, I have never given money to any Hoboken candidate, nor to any candidate in any NJ election. Moreover, Beth Mason contributed the value of one seat at a NJ Appleseed function several years ago when POG bought the table at which she sat. She has not contributed to the organization in at least three or four years. I can look it up if you want.

Second, I am acting on behalf of NJ Appleseed, and the Coalition is not my client. They joined NJ Appleseed in our request.

Second, I have made my request pursuant to our Protection of Healthcare Assets and Services Project.

NJ Appleseed has participated in all of the previous four conversions of hospitals in our state and in fact was a party in all four under CHAPA. They occurred in Salem, Glen Ridge/Montclair, Bayonne, and most recently in Secaucus. In not one of those communities, where I raised similiar concerns, was NJ Appleseed accused of engaging in partisan politics.

Our request is based solely on matters of public policy and our desire to see that each transfer of a nonprofit or public hospital to a for profit entity be scrutinized under the factors set forth in CHAPA.

Institutionally, we have no relationship to the "politics" of Hoboken. What we want is that the community's interest in the hospital be adequately protected--both in regard to fair market value and the quality of services that continue.

Your outrage is pretty much uninformed and seems to be seen only through the provinicial lens of Hoboken politics.

None of the regulators with whom I have spoken have responded similiarly.

Renee,

I too purchased a ticket to that that event, I believe it was an event to Honor you.

The "outrage " you say I display, is not outrage, but passion, as one of the thousands of taxpayers who will be saddled with debt should "provincial politics" (backed by The Russo Family and Beth Mason's desire for power ) continue to mislead groups like Appleseed.
I have no personal interest in this sale, what is outrageous is witnessing well intended organizations who allowing themselves to be used by Ms. Mason.

The Citizens of Hoboken -of which I am one- are most certainly upset.

Kim Glatt (The only official listed on QCC's website) and a host of Hoboken politicos hate the new reform sweeping through Hoboken, reform one would think Appleseed would embrace.
The Coalition for Quality Care is a group of employees, volunteer auxiliary supporters and Machine POLITICIANS.

Certainly Mike Russo and Beth Mason along with some "Provincial" Politicians are thrilled you have lent your support to a group who is simply trying to stall a deal with an election around the corner.

Thank you for your response

Tony Soares
