Dawn Zimmer on NJPTA Grant for Southwest Traffic Problems

Here is a press release form Dawn Zimmer that was released last week. I missed it in my inbox:

Zimmer Initiative Leads to NJPTA Grant to

Address Southwest Traffic Problems

Related Link:Dawn's City Council Record Councilwoman Dawn Zimmer last week praised as an “essential first step” a Jersey City/Hoboken connectivity study to be conducted by the North Jersey Transportation Planning Authority (NJTPA). The study will look at the best ways to improve connectivity between Hoboken and Jersey City to ease travel for drivers, pedestrians and bicyclists.

Councilwoman Zimmer initiated efforts and advocated for the study, and worked with Jersey City and Hudson County officials to help bring it about, including assisting on the successful grant application.

Zimmer said, ”Southwestern Hoboken residents are greeted by honking horns every week day morning because of the traffic gridlock on in the southwest neighborhood. And the already planned growth for this area is likely to make the situation even worse. This study will help point the way to improvements, which will be good for both Hoboken and Jersey City”.

Among the options that will be considered, according to Zimmer, are potential ways to re-route Paterson Plank Road.

“This study could provide the road map for a long-term solution to the growing problem of traffic congestion and make a large park in the area more feasible,’’ added Zimmer.

The study will cost $300,000, $240,000 of which is being paid for by the federal government with a local match of $60,000. ◦
