Hoboken Quality of Life Coalition - Plans Next Three Months

Here is a message from Hoboken Quality of Life Coalition, Inc.:

Hoboken Quality of Life Coalition, Inc.

Over the years the Coalition has rarely asked you for a contribution to help cover the cost of our activities but we are coming to you now to ask for your help.

Within the next three months the Coalition will be:

· Sponsoring, in partnership with People for Open Government and the Parish of Our Lady of Grace/St. Joseph, public forums for candidates running for three at-large city council seats (April14) and mayor (April 28) in the May 12 election (see website, http://www.blogger.com/, for details).

· Contributing to the cost of the Hoboken Historical Museum’s new Hoboken Historical Waterfront Map as part of the 400th anniversary celebration of Henry Hudson’s discovery of the river that bears his name.

· Supporting efforts to preserve the Neumann Leathers factory site, which recently won an amazing reprieve from the wrecking ball, as a haven for small businesses and artists.

· Starting a campaign to convince the City Council to revise plans for the Western Edge Redevelopment Zone to ensure that benefits for Hoboken residents supersedes benefits for developers.

· Raising awareness of a proposed project in North Bergen that seeks to demolish 700,000 cubic yards of the Palisades to make way for a strip mall. This project, if approved by the County Planning Board, will allow development to be proposed all along the face of the Palisades in defiance of state rules protecting steep slopes along the cliffs from Jersey City, running behind Hoboken, up to the Palisades Interstate Park. (See our website for more information.)

· Spreading the word about how to reduce carbon dioxide emissions through the activities of our Committee for a Green Hoboken. Stop by the QLC/CGH table at the May 3 Hoboken Arts and Music Festival and the Our Lady of Grace FUNFEST, June 7, in Church Square Park.

A donation as small as $25 would be of great help. Of course, if you could give more, it would be wonderful. Contributions are tax deductible (QLC is an IRS-approved 501c3 organization). For donations over $45 we will send you a copy of the limited-edition Hoboken Historic Waterfront Map when it is introduced later this year.
