BOE Budget Process Overview Recap

Last night at the Calabro School, Jack Raslowsky gave about 30-40 citizens an overview at a high level of the School Budget process.

During the approximately hour and a half meeting the 2008-2009 current budget was explained and broken out into the components of revenue and appropriations. Superintendent Jack Raslowsky was informative at the "10,000 ft. view" and was able to answer some high level questions from the audience but he did defer on others so as to "ensure accuracy" as he put it.

I think the bigger concern that was on most minds that attended that meting last night is the total cost of the educational services we are getting versus what we are spending. There were concerns about non-residents inflating the enrollment numbers as well as the cost per pupil and other measures. This was a good overview but a lot of questions remain on the spending.

Here are the revenues and appropriations summarized as part of the handout given out last night:

One question raised by Donna Antonucci was the requirements for proof of residency. This question can be answered on the BOE web link below:

(Preschool registration will take place the week of March 16).
Please bring with you to registration:

• Your photo ID
• Child's immunization record (An immunization record must be reviewed by a district nurse, otherwise your child will not be able to start school on the first day)
• Child's birth certificate
• Two proofs of residency as indicated below:
copy of lease or deed

There is the normal school board meeting tonight at 7 PM. I am sure residents will have more questions then. ◦
