Waterfront Mini Sinkhole or Major Muni Headache? 16th and Bloomfield

Roving "Citizen Watchdog" and recent HUMC Board appointee and standup guy Eric Kurta does not have a dog, megalomania, or wear crazy shorts during the winter (unlike some other delusional blogger we get a kick out of with his proclamations of greatness and dwindling site comments) but he does enjoy the occasional saunter along Hoboken's Waterfront from time to time.

Here is another potential issue on our Waterfront that could be minor or have a major financial impact on our City once again...

I first noticed this yesterday (Saturday). A few pavers were missing next to a light post on the walkway behind the Tea Building (16th & Bloomfield). More pavers were sagging downward. I removed a few more pavers to reveal a rather large hole. Anyone walking across would have fallen in – there was nothing beneath the pavers but air. The hole goes down several feet. HPD came out to string up some caution tape. It appears that a larger area was cordoned off today.

More repairs to be done! More money to be spent! What else is in store for us? Walk the riverfront at your own peril!
